“‘VOSSY’ is all about humility, relentless and doing your job. I was able to do it in that moment.”
There was only one thought in Jacob Weitering’s mind when the ball was in the air, heading towards the Hawthorn goal with 35 seconds remaining.
It was that solitary focus which ended in a clutch intercept mark from the defender, capping off a brilliant final term from the No.23 as the Blues clung onto a one-point victory.

Stationed precisely where he should have been in that moment, Weitering bobbed up in front of James Sicily at centre half-forward and produced the decisive grab which saved the game for the Blues.
After an electric start, the Blues were challenged and were nearly left ruing a missed opportunity at the MCG. However, come 3:40pm yesterday, they were savouring a victory which took them to 3-0 for the first time in a decade.
“Credit to the boys: we held strong,” Weitering told FOX Footy post-game.
“The last three quarters were frantic, to be honest. We had a hot start and then they came at us — it’s a credit to them.
“They certainly gave it to us in the last three quarters, it was awesome to get the win.”
The icing on the cake was that the victory came in front of 66,317 fans at the MCG, with a large majority of those wearing Navy Blue.
It means that after three rounds, the two biggest crowds of the season have been Carlton home games.
Weitering said it was exactly what has been missing in recent years, having had to deal with empty stadiums or crowd caps.
“It helps when we’re winning, that’s for sure!
“To all the Bluebaggers at home, thanks for all your support. But it’s awesome to play in front of these crowds and get wins like this.
“The first three games have all been different in their own right and we’ve been able to win in three different ways. It shows our system is holding up.”
