FOLLOWING a convincing win over the Giants on Sunday night, the Blues are setting their sights on a strong finish to the 2022 season.
Speaking on the ‘The W’ podcast, Mimi Hill explained that the team had to have a look at themselves heading into the St Kilda game two weeks ago.
“I think after the Fremantle game, we sat back and thought ‘alright, something needs to change here’,” Hill said.
“We knew we weren’t far off it, we knew something was going to click and that we were going to start playing good footy as a team.”
Hill disclosed that the group had a ‘player-only’ chat where they lay all their cards on the table and had some honest discussions amongst one another.
“We had a chat, players only, and said ‘if you’re not going to be all in, then tell us now,’ and I think that was good for everyone to have a bit of a shock,” she said.
“We’ve just played with a bit of belief in the last two weeks and it’s been great.”
Over the last fortnight, Carlton has had resounding wins over St Kilda and Greater Western Sydney where it looked like the Game Changers were really gelling.
With dominant displays from a number of players, it seems the Blues took on a more balanced approach, with the numbers showing that sharing the ball was a top priority.
“I think everyone has put in, even just looking at the disposals for the team, no one below seven but no one above 20, so it’s good that everyone’s putting in,” she said.
“We’re really just wanting to make a point for the rest of the season and try to win these last few games or be competitive.”
Coming off an 11-month stint on the sidelines, Hill has put in a comprehensive performance across all four games she’s played, averaging 21 disposals and picking herself up a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination in the process.
With only two games left in the AFLW season, Hill says the Game Changers only have their eye on one thing: winning the remaining two games.
“Obviously we’d like to be five and five if we win all the games,” she said.
“We want to keep playing the footy we’ve been playing, we’ve still got stuff to work on, we can still put on better performances even from [Sunday].”
