WHETHER it’s up forward or even in the ruck, Jack Silvagni is happy doing whatever the coaches wish.
Silvagni was one of Carlton’s bright sparks over the course of the first practice match against St Kilda, reprising the role he undertook in the final rounds of the 2021 season.
While it was initially borne out of necessity, Silvagni continued with second ruck duties alongside his role in attack against St Kilda, particularly in the first half before Alex Mirkov was brought into the game at half time.
Speaking on RSN’s Inner Sanctum, Silvagni - who spoke of his enjoyment in the role late last year - said it was something he was looking forward to continuing.
“I am enjoying that second ruck position,” Silvagni said.
“We’ve obviously got Tom De Koning to come back after his blood clot incident that he’s recovering from. Whatever they choose to do there is obviously on the coaches.
“But I do really enjoy playing that second ruck role. It’s a bit of fun.”
Unsurprisingly, Silvagni combined that ruck relief with his customary role in attack, providing a marking target and valuable pressure for his side in equal measure.
It was that pressure which brought about the Blues’ first major inside the opening minute, with Silvagni then doubling his haul in the first term.
It could’ve been an even more prolific outing for Carlton’s No.1, with a missed set shot in the third term and a snap which hit the post in the last quarter following some Patrick Cripps brilliance.
The role he has played for the majority of his 78 games as a Blue, Silvagni believes it’s one which suits his strengths.
“I really enjoy the role I’ve got up forward at the moment,” he said.
“It’s quite a difficult role and it can be quite unrewarding at times in terms of stats, but I think it suits my game well.
“It will seem quite cliche, but as long as I’m getting a game I’ll play wherever the coach wants me.”
For Silvagni and the Blues, the focus now turns to the final practice match against Melbourne, with the traditional Round 1 Thursday night clash under three weeks away.
Three weeks to go, Bluebaggers.

“You can’t compare [the first hitout] to intra clubs. It’s completely different: I’m fairly sore today… a good sore!
“We can tidy up a few things and review quite intently. We’ll have a solid look at the game against the Saints, and then obviously the game against Melbourne.
“I think the two [practice matches] is really good and it’ll hold us in good stead going forward into Round 1.”
