THE GAME Changers are proud to launch their specially designed Indigenous guernsey ahead of the second AFLW Indigenous Round.
Designed by 17-year-old Indigenous artist Brooke Sutton, the artwork represents the Carlton Football Club, the Club’s journey, players, and supporters.
The piece entitled ‘The Mighty Blues’ features a large community symbol which symbolises the Club as a whole. There are also 22 people symbols which represent the 16 players on the field, five reserves and Head Coach.
There are two community symbols which are for both senior sides, and the shields behind them symbolise the battle that will take place on the field.
The design also features a number of large blue arches which depict the many different stadiums and football fields visited during the season, and the coloured arches represent the spectators who support the AFLW each week.
Sutton wanted the artwork to symbolise as many highlights from the Club as possible – including past, present, and future – and every element has a story behind it.
“This design represents every aspect of the Carlton Football Club, including both women’s and men’s sides, and the supporters from all corners of the country,” they said.
“As a proud Kalkadoon person I have a beautiful, rich and ancient culture I want to share through my art, and I am honoured the Game Changers will be able to wear the guernsey to celebrate Indigenous Round.”
Carlton will wear the Indigenous Guernsey during the Round 9 home game at IKON Park, due to the AFL deeming the guernsey a clash with GWS’ Indigenous Round design.
Carlton CEO Brian Cook said the design held significance for all involved with the Club.
“Coming into the second AFLW Indigenous Round we were thrilled to have Brooke create this design which is symbolic to every member of our Club from the players, to staff and the wider Carlton community,” he said.
“We look forward to debuting the guernsey in front of a home crowd in Round 9 and being able to celebrate Indigenous culture and its contribution to our game over a number of weeks.”
