Mick Malthouse says he won’t be making any excuses after the Blues slumped to their fourth straight loss this season.
In his weekly message to Carlton members the Blues coach conceded his players are lacking in confidence, which is ultimately leading to poor on-field execution.
“That frailty of confidence is something that I don’t think anyone on earth can work out where it comes from and where it goes to,” Malthouse said.
“We’ve got to find it and we’ve got to find it quickly.”
Carlton players and officials have been in the firing line in the wake of the team’s loss to Melbourne.
While there has been lots of finger pointing, Malthouse says he accepts his share of responsibility for the team's performance.
“From myself as senior coach, the buck does stop with me, there’s no question about that,” Malthouse told Carlton members.
“There’s a lot of scuttle talk about CEOs and presidents, (but) I could not get better support from anyone than Stephen Kernahan; I’ve seen Greg Swann turn a football club from a very ordinary position into a very strong financial position, and he’s also very supportive of our football department.
“So I can, without any fear of contradiction, say that we’ve got some fantastic people working for us and we will turn it around for you.“
Carlton has an eight-day break before meeting the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Easter Sunday.
