REDEMPTION for Round 1.

A key pillar in the backline during Carlton's Saturday night win, Gab Pound was proud of her team's efforts at the Cattery following a chaotic week.

The cult-hero defender, known for her long-sleeve No.6 guernsey and headband combination, noted it was a big step up in intensity, composure and skill from their previous game.

“I think we were pretty disappointed by the way we played against Collingwood the week before and to kind of turn it up a few gears and get going was awesome,” Pound said on RSN's Breakfast Club.

“I know it was such a different feeling in the backline.

“It’s great to see the younger ones who haven’t had a win yet to know what it feels like when we’re playing good football.”

With the Blues unable to bounce back in 2021 from two consecutive losses to start the season, Pound acknowledged that getting an early win under the belt gave the side a boost of momentum for the weeks to come.

“I think from last year, those two losses at the start of the year hurt a fair bit so getting a win in Round 2 is pretty sweet to start off with,” she said.

“I’m pretty excited by it all.”

The Game Changers found out at training on Thursday night that they would not be heading to Maroochydore as they had planned, but instead were taking a trip down the highway to face the Cats at GMHBA stadium.

For Pound and the Blues, it was ‘business as usual’ when it came to the sudden change.

Interviewed by Adam White and RSN's own Daniel Harford, Pound even found the time to incorporate some of the coach's wise words in her own response.

“'Harf’s' favourite quote is ‘everything is subject to change’, so we’re cool with it: it’s fine, give us anything and we’ll roll with it,” she said.

“I’m happy to roll with the punches, that’s how you play football: it’s not perfect, it’s a bit of bash and crash and I kind of like that.”
