With the sixth edition of AFLW just days away, preparations are ramping up for the Game Changers’ opening round against Collingwood on Sunday.
Seven new recruits joined the Blues throughout the off-season and here's what you can expect from each in the Navy Blue in 2022.
Jess Dal Pos
Jess Dal Pos made her way to IKON Park via a three-way trade with the GWS and Melbourne, after an incredible contribution in orange as an inaugural GIANT.
The crafty ball-winner was a member of the Giants' leadership group since day one, achieving All-Australian selection in 2017, as well as taking out the Club best-and-fairest award in the same year. She played every single game for the Giants across five seasons.
While Dal Pos’ move didn’t take place until the second last day of the AFLW trade period, the 27-year-old has slotted into the Blues’ line-up seamlessly, with the Victorian-bred mid reuniting with a host of fellow Darebin Falcons alumni.
You can expect hard-running, skillful execution and a natural leader among a young Carlton midfield from Dal Pos in her sixth season of AFLW.
Annie Lee
If you asked anyone at IKON Park to name the best kicking action at the Club you’d be met with one answer: Annie Lee.
Pick No.10 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft saw Lee become a Game Changer, with the Blues gaining a Kerryn Harrington-like defender who can lock down their opponent while also providing drive and dash from defence to attack.
A natural footballer, Lee will bring composure and class to the Navy Blue and look to take her game to new heights at AFLW level.
Jess Good
From the WNBL to the SANFL to IKON Park – free agent Jess Good became a welcome addition to the Game Changers, bolstering the Blues’ ruck stocks for AFLW 6.0.
Standing at 185 centimetres tall, Good brings athleticism, competitiveness and a valuable understanding of what it takes to contend at the elite level.
Training with All-Australian ruck Brea Moody along with the help of Shaun Hampson, Good has developed in leaps and bounds since arriving at IKON Park and will be keen to make an impact come the season proper.
Brooke Vickers
A premiership player for the Oakleigh Chargers, Brooke Vickers was selected by the Blues with pick No.23 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft.
Since arriving at IKON Park, she’s impressed with her running patterns, attack on the footy and rebound from defence.
After holding her own for Port Melbourne in the VFLW, Vickers will be eager to take the next step to AFLW in 2022.
Keeley Sherar
Keeley Sherar became an exciting addition to the Blues' midfield with pick No.11 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft.
The Eastern Ranges graduate averaged 14.8 disposals in the NAB League competition in 2021, as well as almost five tackles per game.
As well as performing well for the Eastern Ranges, Sherar - the childhood Bluebagger - played four games for Hawthorn’s VFLW side, with her transition running and physicality in the contest holding her in good stead for AFLW.
Imogen Milford
Pick No.26 of the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft saw Imogen Milford make the move from Casey Fields to IKON Park, with the Blues adding aerial strength, goal sense and ground-level pressure to their forward line.
Milford provided plenty of firepower as a focal point of Casey’s attack in the VFLW, finishing the year second on the goal-kicking table with 19 goals from 15 games.
Poppy Schaap
Perhaps one of the best recruiting stories of the year, Poppy Schaap became the final Game Changer for 2022 after being named as an injury replacement player for the Blues.
Schaap was surprisingly overlooked in the NAB AFLW Draft, despite an impressive campaign with the Geelong Falcons which yielded selections in the 2021 NAB League Team of the Year and the National Championships-winning Vic Country.
Schaap's focus never faltered and along with her incredible determination, she brings silky skills at ground level, danger around goals and toughness in the contest.
Schaap will look to cause havoc in a new-look Carlton forward line, while she also has the ability to make an impact through the middle if required.
