Talented young ruckman Shaun Hampson has committed to the Carlton Football Club until the end of the 2011 season after re-signing for a further three years.
“Shaun has displayed enormous talent in a short time in the game and we are very confident he will develop into a top class ruckman for the Carlton Football Club. His development continues to impress and we are thrilled that he has committed to a further three years at Carlton,” said General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.
Hampson was a State representative in soccer, playing as a striker, before taking up AFL just four years ago. His progress since joining Carlton has been excellent and he made his AFL debut in round 21 last year and has now played eight matches for Carlton. He was recruited from Mt Gravatt in Queensland with Carlton’s priority selection (number 17 overall) in the 2006 AFL National Draft.
“I am really enjoying being a part of the Carlton Football Club and it is great to know that my immediate future is with the Blues. It has been a big learning curve for me in the short time I have been at Carlton but the support that the coaching staff and everyone at the club has provided has been great,” said Hampson, who is 201cm, 100kg and turned 20 in March.
“This year with the new fitness team and the specific development coaches it has really helped my development, along with all the other younger players. We need to continue our development and hopefully I can be a part of a successful Carlton team in the near future.”
Hampson has joined other Carlton players including Bryce Gibbs, Eddie Betts, Michael Jamison and Brad Fisher who have re-signed to continue their careers at Carlton.
