COULD Patrick Cripps make history tonight?

The midfield bull will look to cap off an outstanding 2019 campaign in the perfect fashion with the 2019 Brownlow Medal.

Cripps achieved a career-best finish 12 months ago, polling 20 votes to finish fourth.

With a number of outstanding performances once again in the home-and-away season, Cripps is likely to give the prestigious honour a shake.

Standing in his way are the likes of Brisbane’s Lachie Neale, Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield and the Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli: three players who joined him in the All-Australian team.

Should Cripps triumph, he will become Carlton’s sixth Brownlow Medallist, following on from Bert Deacon (1947), John James (1961), Gordon Collis (1964), Greg Williams (1994) and Chris Judd (2010).

Across the competition, Cripps has put together some of the best individual performances of the season: his performances against Brisbane (Round 12) and Adelaide (Round 19) were worthy of the three, two and one votes combined.

Conceivably, he could poll in eight of the first nine games of the season.
