Queensland artist J Michael Allery knows that feeling – he has spent some 120 hours studying the dual Brownlow medalist, as he painted Judd’s portrait for a good cause.
Allery’s portrait of Judd is now complete and on it’s way to Melbourne, where it will be auctioned to raise money for the Royal Women’s Hospital’s Newborn Intensive and Special Care Unit.
The NISC Unit holds a special place for Kylie Carmichael, the daughter of 1981 Carlton premiership player Greg Wells.
Kylie’s son Sam, who was born 14 weeks early weighing just 440 grams, spent his three short weeks of life being cared for in the Women’s NISC. Since then, Kylie and her husband Tim have been dedicated to raising money to support the unit and its vital work.
Judd has thrown his support behind the cause, with his portrait expected to fetch in excess of $10,000 when it goes under the hammer at the VFL’s Grand Final Eve function at Docklands on September 26.
The money raised will be used to help purchase a new neonatal ultrasound machine.
