CARLTON has gained another experienced and well-respected AFLW player, after signing former Docker Kirby Bentley as a free agent on Wednesday morning.
Bentley’s recruitment finalises the Club’s 2019 AFLW list, following Tuesday’s NAB AFL Women’s Draft where the Blues welcomed seven new draftees to Ikon Park.
Initially recruited by Fremantle as a priority selection in 2016, the 32-year-old played all seven games in the inaugural AFLW season and averaged 10 disposals per match. Her consistent performances across the year earned her a spot in the initial 40-player All-Australian squad.

Following the conclusion of the 2017 season, Bentley unfortunately suffered a knee injury during a State of Origin game, which saw her ruled out for the second instalment of the AFLW competition.
As a role model and mentor for young Indigenous females, her name bears the title of the largest Indigenous girls’ football event in WA – The Kirby Bentley Cup.

AFLW senior coach Daniel Harford said Bentley’s experience will benefit the team.
“Kirby is a wonderful person with plenty of experience up her sleeve, so she’ll not only be an asset on the field, but she’ll also help shape our young talent too,” Harford said.
“Having watched her play in the first AFLW season and reviewing the vision, we know she has elite skills and she’s a smart footballer. We’re rapt she’ll play at Ikon Park next year.”
Welcome, Kirby!
