SECURING the signature of one of the best young forwards in the competition, Carlton Football Club is thrilled to announce Charlie Curnow will remain in the navy blue until at least the end of 2023.

Officially putting pen to paper on a contract extension this week, the 21-year-old, who had previously committed to the Club until 2019, has signed on with the Blues for a further four years.

Curnow had a breakout season in 2017, playing 21 senior games and earning a Rising Star nomination in Round 16 alongside young teammates Caleb Marchbank, Sam Petrevski-Seton, David Cuningham and Jack Silvagni, as well as selection in the AFLPA 22 Under 22 team.

In joining his brother Ed at Ikon Park, the Bellbrae product was taken at pick No.12 overall in the 2015 NAB AFL National Draft. Curnow has quickly become a fan-favourite amongst Blues supporters for his athleticism and presence up forward, booting 41 goals in his 37 career games to date.

The young forward said he was delighted to have agreed to new terms with the Club this week.

“I’m very thankful to the Club for the opportunity to extend my contract for a further four years,” Curnow said.

“It was never an option to go anywhere else, the Club is basically an extension of my family and I wanted to repay the faith they have shown in me since I arrived at the end of 2015.

“I really believe in where our football program is heading. We are a very close-knit playing group and we are driven to get this Club back to where it belongs so I’m rapt to be staying around and helping us get there.”

Senior coach Brendon Bolton said the Club was thrilled to have secured a player of Curnow’s calibre on a long-term deal.

“We see his signing as a clear show of faith in the Club’s direction and clearly, a player of Charlie’s talent is a key part of our long-term plans,” Bolton said.

“He is a popular member of our playing group and a terrific young man with a level head on his shoulders and we know there is a big future ahead for him with his impressive approach to hard work and continued improvement as a developing key forward.”

Curnow joins the likes of Zac Fisher, Cameron Polson, Paddy Dow and Lochie O’Brien who have all agreed to new terms with the Blues this season.
