Carlton has selected boyhood Bluebagger Angus Schumacher with pick 70 in the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft.
With one of the longest and penetrating kicks in this year’s draft, there’s no wonder the rangy left-footer was the top rebounder in the TAC Cup – averaging nearly four per game.
Showcasing his elite kick at the AFL Draft Combine in October, the young Bendigo Pioneer was one of only four players to achieve a perfect score in the goalkicking test.
The young defender also knows how to lay a strong tackle and apply relentless pressure to his opponent, while his quick hands, coupled with his ability to make good decisions, makes him a dangerous prospect.
Carlton’s GM of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni said he was impressed with Schumacher’s ability to find time and space with the ball.
“Angus is one of those players who always seems to have time with the ball,” Silvagni said.
“He’s a great size and has all the attributes you want in a modern footballer.”
Welcome, Angus!
