Over the next two weeks, as the 2015 AFL Trade Period gets underway, we’ll count down Carlton’s top-10 trades over the past 30 years.

Which stars reinvigorated their careers donning the Navy Blue? And who made Carlton their second home?

Coming in at No.7: Ron De Iulio

The Trade: Carlton traded in Ron De lulio from the Kangaroos in 1991 in exchange for Richard Dennis and a swap of 10th-round draft picks (neither used).

It wasn’t until he was 16 years old that Ron De Iulio switched his soccer ball for a football – and it proved to be a good move, especially for the Blues.

Having been drafted by the Kangaroos and spending time on their list without playing a senior game, De Iulio was traded to the Blues at the end of 1991.

It didn’t take long for the pacey forward to make his debut, running out in Round 1, 1992 against Brisbane.

He made the most of his opportunities, bursting onto the scene with 29 goals from 19 games, with a bag of five coming against his old team North in Round 4 at the MCG.

In his first season at the club De Iulio finished second behind Stephen ‘Sticks’ Kernahan for most goals kicked at the Blues.

He was named as a half-forward in Carlton’s Multicultural Team of Century, as well as being placed on the shortlist for the AFL’s Italian Team of the Century.

The No. 34 played 104 games for Carlton and kicked 71 goals between 1992 and 1999.
