In the lead-up to Round 1 we’re speaking to Carlton’s new recruits to find out a bit more about what makes them tick. 

Next on the list is first round draft pick Patrick Cripps, who has already been nicknamed "The Extractor". 


1. How would you describe your style of play?

I like to be an ‘in-and-under’ player and around the contest.

2. What would you say is your greatest strength?

Winning the contested ball and clearance work.

3. Who was your football hero when you were growing up?

Ben Cousins, because I was an Eagles supporter.

4. Outside of the AFL, who is your sporting hero?

NBA star Lebron James.

5. When you’re not training and playing, what do you like to spend your time doing?

Relaxing, spending time with my mates and going to the beach.

6. Where is the best place you have ever been on a holiday? 

Whistler in Canada – I went on a skiing trip and it was heaps of fun.

7. If you had to cook to impress someone what would you cook? 

Chicken stir-fry.

8. Favourite food?

Also chicken stir-fry!

9. If you weren’t playing football, what would you be doing?

I’d be studying something in agriculture – we have a farm back home and I would look to go back to the farm eventually.

10. What are your goals for the year ahead?

I haven’t set too many goals, but I want to hit some good form in the VFL and press for senior selection.
